Amazon Design Theft of Zazzlers Art 3

This is my second follow up to my original post of May 15, 2016 about Amazon Design Theft of Zazzlers Art. The first follow up was June 1st and only encompassed copyright infringement complaints filed on the .com domain of Amazon. You see, I didn't realize that I had to complete separate copyright infringement complaints for each country that Amazon has a marketplace!! Holy smokes - I am told that may be 14 different domains with stolen images.

The Chinese sellers on Amazon have stolen my copyright art from my Zazzle Shops of JaguarJulieFlowers and JaguarJulieDesigns -- I'm not sure that they have stolen from my other Zazzle Shop of Attitude Shirts. It surely seems the image theft is out of control!

This story is focusing on the second wave of Amazon's bootleg sellers and is marked with the hashtags of #amazon #zazzle #stopimagetheft #stopcopyrightinfringement #chinesesellers

Here are artsy word clouds of the Amazon Sellers in the second wave with reported copyright infringements in their stores on Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, Amazon.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.it which represent 255 stolen products removed from 74 different sellers stores.

You might notice that there are the Amazon sellers with the same names across the U.K., Germany and Italy -- and probably Spain too.

When I was using the online copyright infringement form of Amazon for the respective countries, I encountered push back from Spain! It took some back and forth to have them honor my copyrights for about two dozen products. I haven't included the list of sellers from that country, but hope to include them with the next update.

Amazon Design Theft of Zazzlers Art 2

This is a follow up to my post of May 15, 2016 about Amazon Design Theft of Zazzlers Art. Since the middle of May, I have submitted over 275 copyright infringement complaints on Amazon. You can't imagine just how much time that takes to research the products on Amazon by primarily Chinese sellers who have stolen the designs from Zazzle. Then, to take time to find the original listing of mine on Zazzle and then complete the infringement complaint form, populating it with all the corresponding product IDs from Amazon.

I have found so many products on Amazon with my copyright art stolen from my Zazzle Shops of JaguarJulieFlowers and JaguarJulieDesigns that it seems the image theft is out of control!

This morning I prepared a word cloud with the names of all the 158 Amazon sellers who were reported for image theft of my designs from Zazzle. I compiled all the notices received back from Amazon in response to my hundreds of infringement complaints filed.

Listed below is an alphabetical listing of all 158 Amazon sellers who have used my stolen designs from Zazzle. At the end of their seller names, in parentheses, is the count for how many stolen designs were removed in this time period from their stores.

My analysis of all the notices I received back from Amazon in May, 2016, showed 658 instances of my copyrighted designs appearing in one of these sellers' stores. Although quite a few of the sellers only had one or two designs stolen from my Zazzle shops, that doesn't mean they won't have more that will suddenly appear on Amazon.

It is a time-consuming exercise for me to daily search on Amazon to see what "new" is appearing. Just today, I was finding several of my sunflower designs appearing again although they were supposedly removed by Amazon. A fellow designer in the same boat as me has labeled the process "whack a mole." You take out a design here and it pops up there! The bootleg sellers are getting more clever in that they are changing the titles to throw off the bloodhounds! I found several of my 2014 sunflower designs labeled as 2016.

The two screen captures above are from my Amazon Wish List of Stolen Products from JaguarJulieDesigns and JaguarJulieFlowers. Another Zazzler suggested we impacted designers add the products as we find them to such a list so that we can follow the progress of Amazon's removal. And, so that others can easily see what is being stolen from our Zazzle shops by this despicable Amazon sellers to use in their many Amazon stores.

How do all of us Zazzle designers protect our copyright images from the unscrupulous Chinese thieves? It is not clearly understood if the Zazzle watermark will stop those unscrupulous image thieves. It was only recently that I enabled such a watermark on my Zazzle designs. You see, I thought they already had a watermark in the large image view! There are RSS feeds of Zazzle products which may not have this protection.

P.S. Some of the Chinese sellers are sending apology emails to us Zazzle designers asking us to withdraw our copyright infringement complaints from Amazon as they did not know what they did. Really?

Amazon Design Theft of Zazzlers Art

On May 11, 2016 I received an email from a fellow Zazzler alerting me to the fact that one of my designs from my Zazzle shop was appearing on a product in a Amazon store of a Chinese seller. OMG! Once I started viewing more products on the Amazon website, I discovered hundreds, if not thousands, of products with my copyright art stolen from my Zazzle Shops of JaguarJulieFlowers and JaguarJulieDesigns! This story is marked with the hashtags of #amazon #zazzle #stopimagetheft #stopcopyrightinfringement #chinesesellers

Some of the stolen art from Zazzle appearing on Amazon's marketplace
I initially filed one infringement complaint on May 11th and then wondered, "what about my sunflowers and gerbera daisies?" This floral art is my main passion in that I raised sunflowers from seeds for 4 consecutive years. Day after day, I toiled in my gardens to nurture the seedlings and then plants. Then, photograph the thousands of blossoms; edit the photos; upload the photos and design products on Zazzle.

And, what is my reward? Chinese content thieves plow through our product portfolios on Zazzle to unceremoniously take our copyright art for use in stores on Amazon! Why hasn't Zazzle protected our images with watermarks?

I have now spent three consecutive days filing my infringement complaints with Amazon and also writing one star reviews on the products with my copyrighted art. It is a thankless job. Why is Amazon enabling all these content thieves? Greed??

I find that spending hours searching products on the Amazon marketplace, matching then up with our copyright images being offered on Zazzle, and then populating the information into a copyright infringement form on Amazon, is the most thankless way to spend my time. It is a buzzkill in that it zaps all creative juices and makes me kind of testy. Is all this reporting going to do anything to nip this thievery in the bud?

Roll Call of Amazon Sellers - Content Thieves
Of the various infringement complaints I filed on Amazon, a good majority of the products with my copyrighted art were being offered by multiple Amazon sellers. And, many of those sellers were just launched! I compiled an initial list of Amazon sellers who are offering products with stolen copyrighted art of mine that I uncovered in the past couple of days. There are many, many more who launch probably daily. When you review the Amazon sellers information, most of them state China, while a few are now showing locations in the U.S.A.

My initial reporting of copyright infringement complaints focused on my Zazzle throw pillows art being used to sell pillow cases / pillowcases in the Amazon stores. Searching on Amazon this morning revealed over a million products; specifically 1,103,879 results for Pillow Cover Pillowcase! Oh my, can you imagine how many of those are stolen copyright art? I started with pillowcases and will be looking at other products!

This morning, I added my voice to the discussion on the Zazzle Forum about Zazzlers and Amazon design theft.

Over the past couple of days, I have also penned dozens of one star reviews of those products being offered on Amazon using my copyrighted art without my permission. In the three screen captures below, you see a thumbnail of the Amazon product with my copyrighted art. Each caption shares my original Zazzle art. I did not provide a link to the bootleg products on Amazon though!

On the Amazon marketplace, some of the products, featuring my copyright art by a Chinese seller, actually have multiple sales. Some of the customers' reviews state that they are pleased with the item while a few are not so pleased by the quality. Hey, show me the money! These sellers have reaped the rewards from my hard work. I am retired, living on below the national average social security payments. These illegal sales have stolen money out of my pocket.

Will this ever end? I don't think it will unless Zazzle and Amazon actually get aggressive and do something now to stop this thievery.

Artsy Autumn Beauty Sunflower Collage

For the past few days, I have been inspired by the beautiful Autumn Beauty sunflower blossoms emerging on the first sunflower plant of 2015. Thanks to Facebook this morning, not liking my artsy collages, I am taking time to blog about it.

On April 22, 2015, the first Autumn Beauties emerged along the side of my sunflower plant.

FIRST THREE AUTUMN BEAUTIES

Autumn Beauty sunflower blossom
Autumn Beauty sunflower blossom

There are the early emergers! The three beautiful Autumn Beauty sunflowers. The color is like rich merlot or perhaps a rich shiraz and remind me of a velvet-like fabric.

For the past couple of months, I have been watching that singular sunflower plant as it weathered our freezes. I'd cover it some nights to protect it from the cold. That plant just popped up, out of nowhere, this year ... so I opted to go with it. I was daily wondering, "what color will those blossoms be?"

ARTSY AUTUMN BEAUTY SUNFLOWER COLLAGE

This very morning, I was sharing those three sunflower photos on Facebook when one of my friends, Anna, suggested that I might want to do a collage. Hey, that was a great suggestion as I have done many artsy collages in the past. A collage is a good image to compile when you find it difficult picking just one or a couple photos.

So, I started to create my design in PhotoShop. Once I had the first sunflower collage prepared, I thought that I needed to change the background to create a colored mat. I went first with a white background, then black ... and then thought two more ... merlot to reflect the rich color of the blossoms ... and then green, to pick up the pretty colors of the leaves.

I then did a short post and added those photo collages to my post. However, just as soon as I went to submit that post with photos, Facebook told me my post was blocked. And, informed me that I could submit my reason they might have gotten that wrong. Good grief! OK, it was time to get back to my blogging.

Perhaps Facebook was being an art critic? What do you think??

Say, be sure to check out the beautiful line of designer throw pillows on Zazzle. These pillows showcase my authentic and original sunflower blossoms from my very own flower garden in Jacksonville, Florida. And, all those blossoms came from plants that emerged from the humble seed. This year, I am into my third such garden. Enjoy!

Oh, and by ENJOY, I didn't mean STEAL my copyrighted images!

Sunflower Garden at 9 Feet at 90 Days

My sunflower garden finally achieved 9 feet in height on the 90th day! That 90th day was yesterday, June 12, 2014. A couple of days earlier, June 10th, I measured the tallest sunflower plant at 105 inches; that was short of nine feet by only three inches. At 79 days, my sunflower garden was nearly 8 feet tall. On the 81st day, the tall plant measured 8 feet 1 inch!

Take a look at the stem of that tallest sunflower plant. Pretty impressive, isn't it. It has a number of buds which will ultimately bloom into pretty sunflower blossoms.

The evening of May 29th and May 30th, I was busy installing 5 foot wooden stakes to my sunflower plants. I finished on the morning of May 31st. I installed 30 separate wooden stakes and two full spools of landscape twine to completely stake the plants right before the start of Hurricane Season!

My Sunflower Garden at 9 Feet at 90 Days
My Sunflower Garden at 9 Feet at 90 Days on June 12, 2014
I must say it is mixed blessings that we had that stormy and windy weather the end of May. It was because of the initial damage to my garden that I got all my plants shored up. And, that has helped me to achieve the extra height in my plants.

CHARTING THE PLANT GROWTH
  1. 23 days - 6 inches wide by 7 inches across by 6 inches tall = 0.5 ft.
  2. 30 days - 9 inches wide by 10 inches across by 12 inches tall = 1 ft.
  3. 37 days - 11 inches wide by 13 inches across by 18 inches tall = 1.5 ft.
  4. 42 days - 24 inches tall = 2 ft.
  5. 51 days - 38 inches tall = 3 ft. 2 in.
  6. 56 days - 49 inches tall = 4 ft. 1 in.
  7. 62 days - 3 plants at 59 inches tall = 4 ft. 11 in.
  8. 65 days - 2 plants at 63 inches; 1 plant at 66 inches tall = 5 ft. 6 in.
  9. 70 days - 2 plants at 73 inches; 3 plants at 74 inches = 6 ft. 2 in.
  10. 72 days - 9 plants over 72 inches; 1 plant at 78 inches tall  = 6 ft. 6 in.
  11. 79 days - 93 inches = 7 ft. 9 in.
  12. 80 days - 96 inches = 8 ft.
  13. 81 days - 97 inches = 8 ft. 1 in.
  14. 88 days - 105 inches = 8 ft. 9 in.
  15. 90 days - 108 inches tall = 9 ft.
My Sunflower Garden at 9 Feet at 90 Days

See if you can find the 9 foot tall sunflower plant in the picture above. Do you see it? If you look at the previous garden photo, it is not easily apparent which is the tallest plant. There are easily four plants that are similar in growth for being the tallest. The tallest plant is in the first, outside row and is just left of center. Look toward the roof of the house and you can see it rising above.

My Sunflower Garden at 9 Feet at 90 Days
My Sunflower Garden at 9 Feet at 90 Days on June 12, 2014
OK, it should be easier in this last photo to identify the tall plant. Look to the middle of the garden and then just left. See that yellow sunflower plant reaching for the sky? An optical illusion shows it about a foot and a half above the roof. You also get a great idea of how many plants I have and how many blossoms. Probably a couple hundred plants and several hundred blossoms counting all the multiple ones per plant! Amazing sunflowers.

It has been incredible to experience this sunflower journey. I owe it all to Burpee Sunflower Seeds! That's all it took for my first garden in 2013. I had a little more than one hundred plants from 5 packets of seeds. Now, my 2014 garden is all from my harvested seeds from the first garden. This year, I have held off cutting off the sunflower heads for harvesting the seeds. Since my plants are staked, the stems can support the weight of the heavy heads. Now, let's hope that the windy weather doesn't take out any more plants. It's 2:24pm here on June 13th, and some really windy weather has just rolled in. Fingers crossed!!

I just stopped to chat with our mail carrier. I had given him several packets of sunflower seeds from The Sunflower Project. He gave a few packets to a coworker at the local USPS office; she had planned on planting them in front of the facility. He said his plants are around 3 feet tall since he didn't plant them all that long ago. "Boy, they are really growing ... they love all this rain!" Sunflower Garden at 79 Days Almost 8 Feet

Since I last reported one week ago, on the status of my sunflower garden at 72 days, there has been a lot of stuff happening meteorologically. Last Sunday, we reported 9 plants were well over 72 inches with the tallest single plant at 78 inches tall = 6 ft. 6 in. Today, that tallest single plant is at 93 inches; only three inches shy of 8 ft.! That's fifteen inches of growth in one week.

SO MUCH WEATHER

What about all that weather? Over the past week, there have been quite a few days of rain along with some pretty heavy winds. Each day, along with the heavy rains, I have seen hail. The hail has been about the size of garbanzo beans and there was quite a bit of it.

Because I was seeing a lot of growth throughout my sunflower garden, along with lots of multiple, large blossoms, the plants were a bit top heavy. Needless to say, the rains and winds ended up taking out several of my larger and smaller plants.

You can see in the two previous photos, some of the wind damage to the sunflower garden. I cut out a number of large and small sunflower plants which had been toppled or were bent on the stem. I was able to fill four different vases with a variety of the sunflower blossoms - so that would be the positive!

STAKING THE SUNFLOWER GARDEN

On Friday and Saturday, I started to add garden stakes throughout my sunflower garden after I had cut away many damaged plants. I used three packages of six each, 5 ft. tall garden stakes from K-Mart along with two packages of six each, 5 ft. tall garden stakes from Lowe's. The K-Mart stakes were much nicer than those at Lowe's.

If you look at the plant right above the blue ceramic flower pot, you can detect the tallest plant at nearly 8 ft. I am so thankful it survived all the wind, rain, and hail. You can also make out the various 5 ft. garden stakes throughout the 4 rows. I used the type of wooden stakes like the Bond 95006 6-Count 5-Feet Hardwood Stakes.

When I added the thirty 5 ft. garden stakes throughout the four rows of the sunflower garden, I used two different types of landscaping twine. I ran out of the bright lime green twine and used a forest green twine rather like Gardener's Blue Ribbon 200 Feet Soft Green Garden Twine T028A. I am thankful, in hindsight, that I ran out of the lime green version because the other forest green twine was easier to tie and seemed to make more secure knots.

It took me two days to put in all the garden stakes and an additional morning to finish off with the twine. I pretty much secured all the plants and strung some twine to connect the various garden stakes so that all plants were supported. On the outside edges, I extended the twine from the garden stakes to the metal edging to add extra support.

I would appreciate YOUR support in not stealing my copyrighted images for your own purposes. It is not a good habit to get into to.

I am hopeful that the plants will hold up to the wind and not snap the stems! Stay tuned.

My DIY Garden of Sunflowers at 72 Days

It has been 72 days since I planted all those harvested sunflower seeds in my second DIY garden of sunflowers. Those 72 days have encompassed a lot of hours of my time tending to my sunflower garden. Early on, I spent 21 consecutive days covering my emerging seedlings to protect them from digging critters.

Looking out from my home office window, I am thankful of all the time I spent nurturing that garden.

From my home office, I can see a number of the beautiful sunflower blossoms. Pretty soon, I expect to see a lot more sunshine as all the plants are with buds. Some of the taller plants have multiple buds up and down the stem.

SUNFLOWER PLANTS OVER SIX FOOT

Ten days ago, at the 62nd day measurement of sunflower plant height, I reported three plants had attained 59 inches in height.

Today, I measured one sunflower plant at 78 inches. That is nearly 20 inches of growth in 10 days; wow, 2 inches per day!! Remarkable. You can see that the plants have been getting a lot of water because the leaves near the bottom of the stems are yellow. I have been watering them more recently because I did a second treatment of Kgro All-Purpose 24-8-16 Water Soluble Plant Food. I originally did my first plant food treatment on the 42nd day.

SUNFLOWER POSTAGE

I think a neat part-time opportunity would be to design postage stamps for the United States Post Office! Hey, wait! I believe I already did that in my Zazzle shop.

BACKYARD GARDENER CONTRIBUTOR AT SQUIDOO

You might have already heard that on May 4th, I became the Backyard Gardener Contributor at Squidoo! This time of year, I am pretty immersed in my backyard gardens and particularly in my sunflower garden. That means, I don't have a lot of discretionary time for my writing. That's OK! I'd really rather be working that green thumb of mine out in the garden than at the keyboard.

My mom keeps asking me why I haven't been contacted to work for some large Home and Garden company to help them in their online presence. Because I have been a sort of brand ambassador for Burpee Gardens, always promoting Burpee Sunflower Seeds, I was thinking that would be a great company with which to work!

BLONDES THAT DIY

Another niche that I have launched is Blondes that DIY -- you know, blondes that do-it-yourself? Living in Jacksonville, Florida has allowed me to seriously explore that niche. And, more so lately since I am a single senior gal. Since my divorce in November 2010, I've found that I seriously NEED to learn how to DIY more things around the house. And, you know what? I have surprised myself along the way.

Are you a blonde that can seriously DIY? Hey, let's hear from you! Don't be shy.
