Microsoft Azure Unusual Traffic from Reported IPs

From March 23rd to May 21, 2019, it was pretty much two continuous months of unusual traffic coming from Microsoft Azure hosted IPs. Doing a Whois, it says Microsoft Azure ... so if this was questionable activity, you would need to send your abuse reports to Microsoft Corporation. Before I reported this unusual activity to Microsoft, I generated an output list of IPs for Microsoft's data center to see if this was official Microsoft Corporation activity. I did not find these three IPs on their list, so I proceeded with my report.

It took two reports to get a informational response on May 21, 2019 from Microsoft Azure Safeguards Team that these 3 IPs belonged to a Bing team! Like, I was supposed to know that? They were kind enough to also direct me to a most interesting and informative post about Safer Web Exploration with Bing.

That Bing article goes back to August 7, 2013. It is almost six years later! I don't believe I've seen such unusual traffic like what I've seen the past two months. After being informed of this Bing team, I guess I have concluded that this activity is a good thing for me and my blog. However, in the course of angsting for the past two months because of this unusual traffic, I did find that some websites have employed unscrupulous black hat seo techniques to negatively impact my blog! I am hoping maybe the Bing team might help to rectify that negative activity and set me back on a positive path.

As a result of this new more positive information, I have rewritten my blog post about the Microsoft Azure unusual traffic from reported IPs! And, I have done another blog post to point out the content scrapers who have gone seemingly nuts on stealing my copyrighted images. One of the sites has malware and is a blacklisted url. Not good when you see them ranking with my image and blog name.

DEAR MICROSOFT CORPORATION : HELP!
On May 1, 2019, I first reported this questionable activity to Microsoft through their contact email of abuse@microsoft.com. The 3 different IPs involved:

  1. 52.162.211.179
  2. 52.162.213.79
  3. 23.100.232.233

On May 3, 2019, I heard back from Microsoft Online Security, "Based on the information you have provided, this may have originated from an account hosted on Microsoft Azure. We forwarded your complaint to the CERT team for review and action. Should you encounter additional reports from the same IP, send them directly to Cert@Microsoft.com."

On May 8, 2019, I compiled a comprehensive report on the 3 IPs unusual activity on my Google blog, showing the blog posts and dates and times of the activity. I sent my report directly to Cert@Microsoft.com. I also shared:

There are an extensive number of abuse reports against these IPs. It was because of the abuse reports that I thought something nefarious was going on to negatively impact my blog!

https://www.abuseipdb.com/check/52.162.213.79
https://www.abuseipdb.com/check/23.100.232.233

On May 8, 2019, I received back an automated response from Microsoft stating:
In order for the report to be processed it must contain the following information:
Name:
Organization:
Phone number (optional):
Email address:
Source IP:
Destination IP:
Description of the activity:
Accurate date and time and time zone of activity:
Log Data Extracts:
Your contact details:
For the fastest response, please submit abuse reports to https://cert.microsoft.com. We will review your report and contact you as appropriate.
My original report to Microsoft had included all of this information with the exception of the Destination IP of my Google blog, https://jaguarjulie.blogspot.com/. So I edited that same report, including the text block of information asked for, and resubmitted to that email.

On May 9, 2019, I noticed that Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, Washington, visited my Google blog to determine more about the destination IP.

As of May 14, 2019, there has been no further response to me directly from Microsoft Corporation about my complaint of unusual activity by 3 IPs hosted on Microsoft Azure. The unusual activity continues daily! You be the judge ... take a look at the type of visits to my Google blog posts ... over and over again to the same posts!

Here is a snippet of one day's unusual traffic from IP 23.100.232.233:

On May 21, 2019 that unusual traffic seemed to stop, or maybe pause. I am glad Microsoft finally sent me a note to inform me that this was their Bing team with the 3 IPs at work. How was I supposed to know this? My blood pressure has been through the roof and my insomnia kicked into high gear. Thanks for letting me know!

Blogarama Content Scraper

This is my second blog post today discussing a blog directory content scraper or content thief. Earlier today, I published a blog post on another blog directory content scraper, BlogCatalog. This herein, "copyrighted" blog post puts the notorious spotlight on Blogarama for their scraping of my copyrighted content including images.

I've already said this ... that it is more than concerning how some websites will just plain STEAL your copyrighted content and copyrighted images and make you think it is OK. Calling yourself a blog catalog or blog directory does not make it OK to take without the author's permission their entire blog post with images to post on their website.

Normally, a reputable blog catalog or directory website will ask you if you would like to have your blog included first. Then, after you have granted permission to feature your blog, the blog catalog or directory will share SNIPPETS or an acceptable summary of your copyrighted blogs posts with a link to the ORIGINAL blog post where you can read more and see the original. They will not steal your entire blog post along with all the images to put on their site! That is essentially content theft.

It appears Blogarama is taking my entire blog posts and copyrighted images as soon as I publish them. This illegal practice needs to cease and desist – they do not have my permission to steal my content so blatantly! A reputable website will not steal your work and create duplicate content [that is not theirs] to submit to Google and other search engines to index as theirs.

I had been very busy dealing with all the content thieves on Amazon that were stealing hundreds of my copyrighted designs from my three Zazzle stores to sell as theirs on Amazon. It was well over a year of continuous reporting and finding the same designs popping up again and again with new sellers there who appeared to be mostly from China.

So, I finally seemed to catch up with the thievery on Amazon to next find a site named Pinsdaddy who has stolen hundreds of my copyrighted images to use on their website. But, worse that just using my copyrighted images, they are suggesting these images are stock images that are free to download and use by the reader. Good Grief!! Houston, we have a problem.

I'm still dealing with DMCA Take Down Notices against Pinsdaddy and have now begun to focus on the blog directories, filing first a DMCA Take Down Notice against BlogCatalog. And, today, filing against a blog directory site of Blogarama. I would say Blogarama seems to be much more concerning as they are literally stealing my content as I publish it!!!

As I've said previously, I would think Google can determine that this type of content thievery is happening. What the heck? It does involve Google blogs after all. Particularly concerning is to find my copyrighted image taken from my Google blog appearing in Google image searches as attributable to the scraper blog directories! Hey -- wrong! Google needs to penalize these content thieves now and bar them from future privileges.

I just filed my DMCA Take Down Notice on BlogCatalog and expect to be given the runaround by the hosting company and website to pass the buck and NOT want to comply with my legal request!

This is not the only blog directory type of website that has scraped or stolen my copyrighted content. I'm also just sending out a DMCA Take Down Notice against Blogarama who seems to be STEALING my copyrighted work just as soon as I publish it!!!

I've sent my DMCA Take Down Notice against BlogCatalog to Cloudflare who quickly responded with additional information. Cloudflare advised that BlogCatalog's Hosting Provider is AMAZON-AES - Amazon.com, Inc., US with an Abuse Contact: abuse@amazonaws.com. It's been a few years since I communicated with Amazon AWS regarding a content scraper who kept moving their hosting to give me the runaround ... I hope I am not given the runaround again! I'm getting a bit old to deal with this type of behavior.

I would think Google can tell that this content thievery is happening ... especially when it involves one of their Google blogs! I have seen my newer blog posts copyrighted images appearing in Google searches as attributable to the scraper blog directories! That is really concerning that the original image is not appearing above the scraper blog directories. Just plain wrong! Google needs to penalize these content thieves.

My Ten Year Anniversary Blogging

I am celebrating my ten-year anniversary today, December 22, 2014, as a blogger! On December 22, 2004, I wrote my first blog post with a welcoming message of intent. Today, this is my 475th blog post on this blog. Just over ten years ago, prior to penning my first blog post, I attended a webinar about blogging for business. I learned about the wisdom of blogging. Throughout these past ten years, I have embraced the notion that "Wisdom begins in wonder." That's a famous Socrates quote, you know? I have wondered about a lot of things, some big, some small.

Owl Art Wise Gifts
"Wisdom begins in wonder." ~ Socrates
That wise old owl taught me to actually "give a hoot!" I had always embraced the fact that you should have relevant content ... or you will have no readers. I stated an interesting FAQ, all those ten years ago, "Market or promote your blog by trading links ... use a lot of outbound links." I would say that statement pretty much still rings true today, but I would say that you should be judicious with the number of outbound links and even more with the quality of inbound links.

Which is the stone that holds that bridge? It is a delicate balance to achieve a well-written and relevant blog post. You need to balance your relevant content with a judicious number of links to not be overly commercial or promotional.

I am a Google Blogger!

In addition to this first blog, I ventured out to write on three other Google blogs that I have created over the past ten years. "Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it." Albert Einstein said it and I have been working at acquiring IT!

#1 - Topicability - To be topicable :: that which is relevant, of current interest, contemporary, spot-on! Originally created on April 8, 2008, my goal was to concentrate on the relevancy of Squidoo lenses.

I have authored 108 posts over the past 6.5+ years. This blog has garnered nearly 30,000 pageviews. Now that the content site of Squidoo is a thing of the past, I plan on using that blog to focus on the topicability of other sites and issues which seem to confound us daily.

#2 - For Sale By Owner - Jacksonville FL - Fall in love with this beautiful home for sale by owner in Jacksonville, Florida. Originally created on December 31, 2013, my goal was to create a go-to site for more information on my house for sale.

I authored 8 posts which showcase the various features of the house for sale. I've wanted to write a couple more posts to showcase the landscaping and various gardens that I have created. This blog will be celebrating its one year anniversary next week! In those twelve months time, it has garnered over 3,700 pageviews. The house has been under contract nearly three times; however, it still is available!

#3 - Blondes that DIY - All about us blondes that DIY do-it-yourself with humor, advice, tips and fun stuff charting the hashtag of #blondesthatdiy - Originally created on May 9, 2014, my goal was to focus on do-it-yourself "projects" that blondes tackle ... not only me!

I have authored 159 posts along with 3 pages. In the 7.5 months of that blog's life, it has garnered nearly 6,000 pageviews. In addition to focusing on DIY projects, I transitioned many of my Squidoo lenses that I opted not to feature on HubPages. I still have over 645 lenses, that I had removed prior to the Squidoo sale, which might be featured some day on this blog or my JaguarJulie blog!

A Passion; A Joy!

For a long time, Squidoo was THE passion for me. Then, things began to change; not on my end, but on the end of Squidoo. The sense of community was obliterated. People, who called themselves authors and writers, were copying my lenses and other lensmasters' lenses. Then, some were involved in cheating and some were using black hat tactics. I didn't recognize the place! In the Winter of 2012, I began to remove hundreds of my lenses, saving them for future publication elsewhere.

Along came Zazzle. This is such a wondrous site, you know? It gives each and every one of us the opportunity to design to our heart's content those truly unique and authentic designs. Be careful of the copycats though!!!

I have been promoting my three Zazzle shops throughout three of my blogs. On September 16, 2009, I blogged about my first Zazzle shop, Zazzle Shirts With a Bit of An Attitude -- Say What? Expressing your attitude on a t-shirt can sometimes help to diffuse the angst and keep one politically-correct!

Over the past couple of years, as I have blogged about my various flower gardens, I have sprinkled glimpses of that flower art on designer creations in my Zazzle shop, Jaguar Julie Flowers. Those flower art designs have been such an artful expression of my passion and joy!

The hundreds of sunflower blossoms that grew in my flower garden were such an inspiration. I have shared that inspiration in my various Zazzle flower designs from the realistic to the abstract. Two other types of flowers, gerbera daisies and mexican petunias, have populated my flower art designs.

In the Fall of 2014, Zazzle was seeking bloggers to become "Zazzle bloggers." I raised my hand and then put it to work with two dedicated blog posts. On November 1, 2014, I wrote, Artsy Christmas Tree Holiday Decor to showcase my artful creations from my Zazzle shop, Jaguar Julie Designs. On December 1, 2014, I wrote, Cyber Monday Crafty Deals at Zazzle to highlight the fabulous deals at Zazzle.

Life's Challenges

I am so thankful to have had my Google Blogs that have been there to help deal with life's challenges over the past ten years. I wished that there had been a singular community forum that would have been there over those ten years. I have been active on a variety of forums, but a few of those are now defunct. It helps to diffuse life's challenges when you can interact with your peers and peeps! Ah, PP.

In ten years, from 2004 to 2014, I have enjoyed several years of marriage and then got divorced. I've moved more than a few times and bought a house that I am now trying to sell.

I've retired from corporate America and am enjoying the challenges of living on a social security income. Yikes!! That's why I have to sell my home. I have tackled the ObamaCare Marketplace and still find myself waiting on the outcome from my eligibility submission to see where I can source my health care!

A Bit of Wisdom

The longer you live and the more obstacles you face and overcome, you attain a level of wisdom. As I sit here editing my blog, it makes me think of some famous wisdom quotes that inspire me and others. The Serenity Prayer has resonated with me for years. It truly nails it in that we are here on this earth learning from our mistakes. Thankfully, we may experience some blessings along the noble journey and learn some lessons from our mistakes. God loves us ... each and everyone!
  1. "Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it." ~ Albert Einstein
  2. "Wisdom begins in wonder." ~ Socrates
  3. "Knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is Enlightenment." ~ Lao Tzu
  4. "The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing." ~ Socrates
  5. "We are made wise not by the recollection of our past, but by the responsibility for our future." ~ George Bernard Shaw
  6. "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." ~ Reinhold Niebuhr
Are You a Blogger?

Take a moment to let me know that you are a blogger, if you are! How long have you been blogging? How many blogs do you manage?

Thank YOU Google for being there along this long and winding road.

I actually give a hoot ... "It is better to give than to receive." You know? That's the principle behind "the art of giving." Do YOU give a hoot?

Thanks Google for Blogger

I love Google! Thanks Google for Blogger! I have learned to appreciate and love blogging thanks all to the power of Google. I would love to work for or with Google in almost any capacity, well except cleaning the toilets. I draw the line on cleaning toilet seats. Do you know how many germs you can pick up on a toilet seat? Listen up; I'd camp out in a tent [with air-conditioning] to get a job at Google. Hello Google people? Hire me please. I am JaguarJulie and I would love to work for or with Google in almost any capacity. Please Google!

I am a Google blogger known as Jaguar Julie Blog On since 2004! This here blog, folks! For the most part, I'm known verbally as a 'woman of few words.' But, you get me passionate about something or really riled up, well I can then become pretty prolific when it comes to the 'written word.' I'm kind of feeling pretty riled up today ... you might have noticed that? Actually the riling up has been building since about March 2012.

Blogging? Why, what a good thing it is to blog and write authentically and creatively on your blog. It's a good thing to talk about other people's content on your blog too ... provided you don't plagiarize them or steal their content and make it look like it is your content! You know?

My very first blog post was on December 22, 2004, inspired by a Microsoft Live Meeting sponsored webinar entitled "Blogging For Business" presented by Jim Coudal of Coudal Partners and Anil Dash of Six Apart. I got the message about blogging online being a good thing!

"It's the Big "T" -- Take time out for blogging you all." I said that! By the way, I picked that pretty picture of very colourful pencils because that's what I think of blogging. Blogging should be compelling and colourful and inviting.

So, are you blogging? Why not leave me a comment about your blog as a comment on this blog post. There was a time when people left blog comments. I miss them. I miss my blog peeps!

UPDATE: It is 2019 and I have been dealing with a host of content scrapers who stole my copyrighted images and content and are indexed on Google ... many times with stolen content above the original content! Google HELP ... help to fix this. Do not rank content scrapers.

Stealing People's Blog Posts is Just NOT Cool

Today I was made aware of another blog that is building their blog from other people's blog posts -- using FULL blog posts to build their blog and then try to sell stuff. Ironically, I was alerted through Google Alerts of this Google blogger stealing content. I have taken the time to leave my comment on those blog posts of mine that I've spotted. Since that blog is stacking some blog posts, I might have missed all the blog posts of mine that they've 'stolen.'

I have made it fully clear that I do not condone them using my content without permission. It seems they have found a number of other people's blogs from which to take content -- full blown blog posts.

The offending party's blog: http://governmentworkathome-admin.blogspot.com

There have been discussions recently on the SquidU Forum about this happening with Squidoo blogs. I'd read that this is sometimes seen as a form of syndication in providing the USED person's blogs or lenses with backlinks and traffic. However, to me this is unauthorized use of other person's content. I was never contacted by that Government Work at Home blog and asked if I would like to have my content used for their purposes of making money!

I have taken the time not only to advise that Google blogger to remove my content, but I have reported them to Google using the online webmaster tools.

Have you spotted your personal content at that Government Work at Home blog?

So, I penned this blog post in August 2009. It is almost June 2019 and you know what? The content scrapers have littered the internet, literally treating it like a litter box of non-authentic and stolen content. Good Grief! Will this ever end? Will Google decide to not index content scrapers stolen images and content? That would be a start, for sure!!
