Microsoft Azure Unusual Traffic from Reported IPs

From March 23rd to May 21, 2019, it was pretty much two continuous months of unusual traffic coming from Microsoft Azure hosted IPs. Doing a Whois, it says Microsoft Azure ... so if this was questionable activity, you would need to send your abuse reports to Microsoft Corporation. Before I reported this unusual activity to Microsoft, I generated an output list of IPs for Microsoft's data center to see if this was official Microsoft Corporation activity. I did not find these three IPs on their list, so I proceeded with my report.

It took two reports to get a informational response on May 21, 2019 from Microsoft Azure Safeguards Team that these 3 IPs belonged to a Bing team! Like, I was supposed to know that? They were kind enough to also direct me to a most interesting and informative post about Safer Web Exploration with Bing.

That Bing article goes back to August 7, 2013. It is almost six years later! I don't believe I've seen such unusual traffic like what I've seen the past two months. After being informed of this Bing team, I guess I have concluded that this activity is a good thing for me and my blog. However, in the course of angsting for the past two months because of this unusual traffic, I did find that some websites have employed unscrupulous black hat seo techniques to negatively impact my blog! I am hoping maybe the Bing team might help to rectify that negative activity and set me back on a positive path.

As a result of this new more positive information, I have rewritten my blog post about the Microsoft Azure unusual traffic from reported IPs! And, I have done another blog post to point out the content scrapers who have gone seemingly nuts on stealing my copyrighted images. One of the sites has malware and is a blacklisted url. Not good when you see them ranking with my image and blog name.

DEAR MICROSOFT CORPORATION : HELP!
On May 1, 2019, I first reported this questionable activity to Microsoft through their contact email of abuse@microsoft.com. The 3 different IPs involved:

1. 52.162.211.179
2. 52.162.213.79
3. 23.100.232.233

On May 3, 2019, I heard back from Microsoft Online Security, "Based on the information you have provided, this may have originated from an account hosted on Microsoft Azure. We forwarded your complaint to the CERT team for review and action. Should you encounter additional reports from the same IP, send them directly to Cert@Microsoft.com."

On May 8, 2019, I compiled a comprehensive report on the 3 IPs unusual activity on my Google blog, showing the blog posts and dates and times of the activity. I sent my report directly to Cert@Microsoft.com. I also shared:

There are an extensive number of abuse reports against these IPs. It was because of the abuse reports that I thought something nefarious was going on to negatively impact my blog!

On May 8, 2019, I received back an automated response from Microsoft stating:

My original report to Microsoft had included all of this information with the exception of the Destination IP of my Google blog, https://jaguarjulie.blogspot.com/. So I edited that same report, including the text block of information asked for, and resubmitted to that email.

On May 9, 2019, I noticed that Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, Washington, visited my Google blog to determine more about the destination IP.

As of May 14, 2019, there has been no further response to me directly from Microsoft Corporation about my complaint of unusual activity by 3 IPs hosted on Microsoft Azure. The unusual activity continues daily! You be the judge ... take a look at the type of visits to my Google blog posts ... over and over again to the same posts!

On May 21, 2019 that unusual traffic seemed to stop, or maybe pause. I am glad Microsoft finally sent me a note to inform me that this was their Bing team with the 3 IPs at work. How was I supposed to know this? My blood pressure has been through the roof and my insomnia kicked into high gear. Thanks for letting me know!

Blondes that DIY Blog

In case you haven't heard, I started a new blog on May 9, 2014. It's my Blondes that DIY blog! That is actually my fourth Google blog. You know, it wasn't until August 19th that I started to engage on my new blog to do my second post. I started out with a cup of coffee, so to speak, prepared on my Bella One Scoop One Cup Coffee Maker!

As of August 30th, I have published some 118 blog posts. The last article is about probably the largest scale do it yourself project I have taken to date! Using a Corona 18 inch razor tooth hand saw, I spent 14 consecutive weeks sawing the up to 50 foot limbs on the 9 crepe myrtle trees that line the back of my property. Boy oh boy, was that ever one heck of a DIY project!!

Squidoo Burp : Nothing to see here!

For me, it is a transitional time. I was a lensmaster on Squidoo for 8.5 years! Wow, pinch me. I can't believe it is over. I am sitting here at my desk gazing out at those trimmed crepe myrtle trees and wondering, "when will my Squidoo lenses transfer to HubPages?" I've set up a new profile there, Julie Ann Brady on HubPages, and am waiting for my 100 lenses to transfer as hubs. Right now, there is "nothing to see here ... yet" on HP!

UPDATE: Well, on September 4, 2014, my 100 lenses transferred over to HubPages as hubs. Because I was busy the first day removing a few, the accolades only recorded 50 lenses published and featured. Within a little over the first week, I had the 10,000 views accolade appearing on my profile. Fast forward to October 3rd at 6:30pm. I removed my final hubs that remained there and repurposed those to my JaguarJulie Blog! Right after I deleted the last one, HubPages took back several accolades that they had awarded - 50 hubs published, 50 hubs featured, 10,000 views! Squidoo never did that. Gosh, HP is rather like an indian giver or something. Taking back something that you earned through your hard work!!

I Love Blogging!

I have been a Google Blogger since December 2004. Wow, can you believe that? Ten years. What is the anniversary gift for ten years? I sure hope Google continues their blogging platform a little longer.

Do It Yourself!

Opting to add more content to my blogs, you can say I am embracing the concept of "do it yourself." I hope you enjoy my new blog and take a moment to say "Hello!" Now that things are winding down and then back up for a lot of peeps, I hope our friendships continue onward as we reach this fork in the road. And, I look forward to also forging new friendships.

Be Authentic!

I guess I need to say this again; i.e., be authentic, be original, be YOU. Don't try to be somebody else or take somebody else's copyrighted images and content to use. Content scraping is not a noble profession.

Which is King - Content or Keywords

Can we equate this debate to one of the world's biggest mysteries? What came first, the chicken or the egg? Which is king these days? Is it authentic and unique content? Or is it keywords and keyword research? Can it really be that keywords are driving the 'need' for original content? Yes, keywords, the right keywords are paramount to your article being found and generating traffic. But is that what drives you? Can it have come to this that we writers are making determinations on what we will be writing about so that we can gain traffic and readers?

Personally, I am still a bit old school. I like to write about those things that interest me; about those things I am most passionate. I love writing/authoring lenses on Squidoo. I did love writing on my blog and striving to be an original. I derive my authenticity from my passions and interests. I am thrilled that I have amassed a great group of readers and friends and fellow associates who value what I might have to say.

So, I'm sitting here this morning with a LOT on my mind. I'm thinking about blog content scrapers, syndicating of blogs, authenticity, value, -- lots of information, perhaps too much information. Where do we go from here?

Six Apart, LiveJournal Merger Creates Blogging Powerhouse

Blog Shares Blogshares - Fantasy or Reality

OK ... me again with the Google searches. I live to LOVE Google searches. I honestly don't know what I did before Google!! Really. And, I'm much too old to be carrying on this way. I'm sure my husband would say, "It must be men o pause!"

Well, I just searched "Blog shares" and yielded 24,700 for "Blog shares" in 0.19 seconds. Without the quotes, you get 1,290,000 for Blog shares in 0.27 seconds.

The most obvious result is http://www.blogshares.com/ -- a fantasy stock market for weblogs. Players get to invest a fictional $500, and blogs are valued by incoming links.

As I am new to fantasy and to Blogshares ... much more into reality ... I was surprised to find Jaguar Julie in Blogshares. In reality, I nominated my blog as Best Small Business Blog for the 2005 Blogging Awards.

What is the history of blogs? They aren't as new as you would think!

Mallory Jensen writes,

"They have actually been around since the early days of the Internet. In the strictest sense, a blog is someone's online record of the Web sites he or she visits. Today's blogs, of course, are much more than that. In 1999 there were dozens of blogs. Now there are millions. What happened?

Simply put, some of the blogging pioneers — in an effort to make their own work easier — built tools that allow anyone, no matter how little Internet savvy he or she possesses, to create and maintain a blog. All you need to get started is a name, a password, and an e-mail address. The most popular of these tools is the aptly named Blogger.com, which was launched in August 1999 by Evan Williams, Paul Bausch, and Meg Hourihan and quickly became the largest and best-known of its kind.

Part of Blogger.com's appeal is that it lets people store blogs on their own servers, rather than on a remote base. This allows them to have a personalized address (like www.yourname.com), whereas with other blogging tools your address starts at the remote server."

Welcome to my Blog

What do you post to your first entry for a daily blog? Well, briefly, let me tell you why I decided to launch this blog.

Recently, I attended a Microsoft Live Meeting sponsored webinar entitled "Blogging For Business." It was presented by Jim Coudal of Coudal Partners and Anil Dash of Six Apart. It was a well spent one hour of interactive discussions on the merits of blogging
